Warriors of Faith

Jin Prem Kio -4 ( Naam and Bairaag)

Naam in the words of Bhai Sahib Bhai Vir Singh Ji -

To know naam; to understand naam, you must have faith. Faith, that the Divine is all-pervading. Faith, that in the seen and unseen world, it is the Formless One that permeates. Faith, that invisible to the naked eye, the Pure Light of the Divine is in each and every being. Faith, that the Divine is eternal strength. Faith, that the power and ways of the Divine cannot be known by mortals, for the Divine is immortal.

When this eternal pure light meets with the spark of light within you, at that moment enlightenment takes place. Your life as you know it ceases. This pure light transforms you. Wonder and gratitude fill every pore of your being.

If this union does not take place, then you continue to live like an extinguished lamp, low in spirits and powerless to rise above worldly desires. This is the cause of pain and suffering. So train your mind to always remain in the presence of the Divine.

Think, when you remember someone, is your attention not that person? Attention is the essence in this world. When you give something your total attention, the work gets accomplished. But when the attention gets diverted, the work suffers. When a student gives his attention to his education, he gets educated. Similarly, if you focus your attention on the Divine and its attributes, you too will reap the benefits. So raise your consciousness above the seen world and focus your attention on the Divine.

When you begin to feel the love of the Divine within your mind and body, know that grace has been bestowed. This is naam.

Dyed in the love of the Divine you will see the Divine pervading everywhere. This is naam.

When your attention turns from the seen world, towards the Divine world, that is also naam.

Naam is not mere repetition.

Naam is repetition, recitation, remembrance and sensation.

Naam is life.

Naam is grace.

Naam is the divine light meeting the light within you.

Naam is love, devotion, ecstasy and rapture.

Naam is when in your remembrance of the Divine you feel a heavenly sensation on your tongue.

Naam is when all the cells in your body get immersed in the love of the Divine and the flow of blood through your veins resounds with the sensation of the Divine.

Every pore, every cell rejoices. At that moment, you are truly awake. You are truly alive.

Bhai Sahib Bhai Vir Singh Ji's description of River Yamuna's thirst for Darshan of Satguru Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj --

From the Himalayan precipice
I plunge into the Torrent waters

Soul ablaze
I search
Once more

I crisscross
The paths
Traveled before
My eyes scan
Countless faces
There is not one
Like Him

I search
On and on

Months Years Centuries Roll
Yet No word Of Him

Disciplined yogis
Ascetic seers
Powerful mystics
Come to my shore

I ask,Where is He?

They say
He is Soul

Figure and form
He's blended
In Cosmic Light

Yogis, seers, mystics
Your learned answers
Don't slake,The fire of my soul

I wish to see
His form
I wish to see
His beauty.
I wish to see
My True King

Seeing His aigrette
Seeing His gold-tipped arrows
Seeing His high-strung bow
Would sooth my eyes.

Witnessing His laughter
Witnessing His sport
Witnessing His Song
Would appease my thirst

If He came
The fire of my soul
Would leap in joy
Every limb, every organ
Would burst with life

But If He is not
To revisit Paonta
And This torment
Was to awaken me

Then I welcome This eternal pain
I welcome This endless longing
I welcome this ever-lasting search

For I seek Only Him
Nothing else But Him

Let eons elapse
Let cycles roll
Let Him be
Where He wills

My search will never cease
My longing will never wane

When thoughts of Him
Flash on my soul
Million waves rise
Calling His Name

This misery is now my life
This misery is now my joy

His Hands Hold my strings
His arrow Lies in my heart

From land to water
From water to land
No goal in sight
Yet, I persist.

Blessed am I
In His pain
For me, there is
Nothing else

This is my story
A glimpse of Him A lifetime of agony
My Prayer,In His compassion
May He return?

My thirst persists
My eyes seek
My heart weeps
My soul appeals

Every wave Resounds His Name
I flow In His Name
I will be As I am now
Till He returns To my shores

He once camped at Paonta
Where is that veena Player
Whose music changed my life forever?

(Let this Ardas of Yamuna, this ardas coming out of Pure-heart of Gurmukh Piare Bhai Vir Singh ji, be Ardas of Our Soul, thirsting and longing for Darshan of Beloved Satguru, Beloved Father, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj)

Simran is the Key- Baba Nand Singh Ji

One Pooranmashi, Baba Nand Singh Ji shared these bachans with Sangat -

'' Gaaviaa suniaa thin kaa har thhaae paavai, jin sathigur kee aagiaa sath sath kar maanee
Their singing and listening is approved by the Lord; they accept the Order of the True Guru as True, totally True.

- Guru Ram Das Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 669

A husband who lived in a distant land, once wrote a letter to his
wife and family, asking them to ensure certain tasks he instructed were
complied with. Everyone in the family read and listened to what was
written in the letter, but the letter was neatly folded away into a
corner in the cupboard. Twice daily, the wife would respectfully ensure
the letter was well kept and would read it over and over. In affection
of her husband, she would even pay her respects to the letter by burning
incense, like one would do before the image of a deity. Day and night,
she would wrap the letter in a beautiful, clean cloth and would bow to
the letter.

When the husband returned after many many years, and
asked his family whether they had received his letter, they all replied
that they did. The head of the house went on further to ask whether the
tasks he had asked had been complied with. But the family replied that
they had taken great care of his letter and reverently paid their
respects of love. The husband then told his family that the purpose of
sending the letter was not to be kept reverently in safety, but had sent
to ensure that the tasks asked were to be done without fail. The family
had failed to comply with even a single instruction written in the
letter. In disappointment, the man of the house stated that their taking
of his letter was of no use to him.

This is exactly the message in what Guru Ram Das Ji says
in the above shabad. In the complete writings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji,
man is instructed over and over, to recite the Name of Waheguru.

bhajahu guobi(n)dh bhool math jaahu
Vibrate, and meditate on the Lord of the Universe, and never forget Him.
maanas janam kaa eaehee laahu
This is the blessed opportunity of this human incarnation.

- Bhagat Kabir Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 1159

What Bhagat Kabir Ji is saying in the above shabad is
that the human birth has been blessed to us for the sole purpose of
remembering Waheguru in meditation. Every sant, mahapursh, gyani and
other spiritually elevated beings remind us, ‘Naam Jappo’ as this is the
first instruction of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. ''

Baba Nand Singh Ji used to encourage the Sikhs to recite
at least one complete reading of Guru Granth Sahib Ji – be it by
beginning with as many recitations one can do of Naam Jap on the mala,
Japji Sahib or Sukhmani Sahib. Many Sikhs get attached to other things
and overlook the need to recite Naam that each one of us are instructed
to do.

naam tul kachh avar na ho-ay
There is nothing equal to the Naam

- Guru Arjan Dev Singh, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 265

Some Sikhs even pay Granthis and Gyanis and book Akhand
Paaths in the hope that this seva will be accepted in the True Lord’s
Court. This only amounts to a pious deed, whereas doing our Nitnem and
meditating on the Name of God is what gets recorded as our aatmic kamaai
(spiritual earning). To forsake our Nitnem (which every Sikh has been
instructed to do daily) and think that seva of anything else (like
booking Akhand Paaths and other Gurudwara seva) is acceptable, is a
grievous misunderstanding.

Once a communist remarked to Baba Isher Singh Ji that
the latter did not consider the former his equal. In return, Baba Ji
asked the communist, ‘How can I consider myself equal to you? You eat
meat, drink alcohol and consume all sorts of junk and then you do not
even come close to Simran (meditation). Tell me, what connection do you
and I have? Our connection is only with those that have forsaken
falsehood, gossip, jealousy and the consumption of meat. One can only be
free of these vices only if he/she practices Simran. Simran can be done
and maintained only when we contemplate on the teachings of our Gurus.’

The communist further remarked that to be free of so
many vices is next to impossible. BabaJi then said to him, ‘If you
cannot forsake your vices, then comply with just one of my instructions –
regularly recite your Nitnem and meditate on the Name of Waheguru. If
there is any strength in the sincerity of your Simran, then the vices
will be eradicated on their own. And if one does not comply with my
instruction of Simran, then I cannot have even the slightest connection
with that person.’

The virtue of Simran and Sangat can only be acquired
through reading and listening to the instruction of our Gurus. Those
that merely wear the robes of religion and divinity and yet from within
have no spiritual earnings (kamaai of Naam Simran, Nitnem and vices
forsaken) and are oppiste of what they show outside, will have wasted
their human birth. Those that have forsaken their Nitnem, Sangat and
Simran, consider that Kalyug (Age of Darkness) is seated on their chests
and it is Kalyug that is stopping them from engaging in the remembrance
of Waheguru’s Name.

Like the family that merely preserved and respected the
letter from the head of the family but did not heed what was being
instructed to them, likewise, we need to look unto ourselves and see if
that is what we are doing too. If we are merely reading Gurbani and not
trying to understand what the Guru is asking of us to do, it is to no
avail. There is no use of covering Guru Granth Sahib Ji in all its
expensive and royal coverings and bowing down in obeisance when we take
little or no heed of even doing our Nitnem and going to the Gurudwara to
earn the blessings of the Guru in Sadh Sangat.

If we step on the first rung of Guru’s teachings – that
is listening to what the Guru says – then a day will come when we will
be worthy of stepping onto the next rung – that of accepting what the
Guru has instructed us to do.

Baba Maha Singh Ji Mataur (Bapu Ji)

When Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj created Khalsa Panth, Army of Akaal purakh, Maharaj created it with Baani and Shastar. While Baani was for spirituality, to attain closeness to Waheguru, to win over the vikaars inside the mind, to purify heart and be truthful, honest, humble and pure, Shastars were given to defend Dharam, the poor and helpless. This is the path which has been given by Satguru Maharaj to his Khalsa Panth, path of Bhagti-Shakti, of Piri and Miri.

Sant Giani Kartar Singh Ji Khalsa, 13th Jathedar of Damdami Taksal was blessed by Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj to re-start the Shaheedi parampara to create Khalsa Raaj. Under Santji’s guidance, a group of Singhs was being readied to wage Dharamyudh in future, who would take up shastars and fight for freedom of Panth. Singhs like Bhai (Sant Giani) Jarnail Singh ji, Bhai Thaara Singh, Bhai Gurbachan Singh Manochahal, Bhai Dalbir Singh Abhyaasi, Bhai Aroor Singh, Bhai Gurdev Singh Usmaanvala  were part of this group. On the other hand Bhai Maha Singh ji and Bhai Dalbir Singh ji were ordered by Mahapurakhs to increase their Naam-Baani-Saadhna so that Baani read by them could help the Singhs in struggle. Shakti comes with Bhagti, Tej comes with Naam and Naam-Baani is the source of a Sikh’s power. Only those who have Naam Baani di Kamaaii can make a real change in society.  Walking on Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s path of Bhagti-Shakti, Santji asked Bapu Maha Singh ji Mataur and Bhai Dalbir Singh Ji Abhyaasi to do 101 Japji Sahib paths everyday, not for personal benefit but for Charhdi kala of Khalsa Panth and Jhujaroo Singhs. Bapu Maha Singh ji and Bhai Dalbir Singh ji, following bachans of Mahapurakhs started this rigorous Jaap and amazingly, both Gursikhs lived with this Nitnem till last day of their life. Bhai Dalbir Singh ji attained Shaheedi on 9th June 1984 fighting Indian Army while Bapu ji went to sachkhand in January 2011.

Babaji came to Taksal during time of Vadde Mahapurakh Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa. Babaji attained such a high awastha that all the Singhs of Taksal, including Jathedar Sant Kartar Singh ji, Sant Jarnail Singh ji used to respect him.

When Government was about to arrest Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa in September 1981, after murder of Lala Jagat Narain, Santji called Baba Thakur Singh ji and Baba Maha Singh ji to his room and asked their views on an issue. Both asked Santji about the matter and Santji said ‘ Its my nitnem after being Mukhi of Taksal that I go every morning Amritvela and have Ishnaan in Amrit Sarovar, after that I do parkarma and come back to my Aasan. Now I’ll be arrested and I’ll be in police custody. If I do this now, will it be against Maryada and Gurmat?’

Both Mahapurakhs advised Santji not to break the Nitnem and go for Ishnaan to Darbar Sahib as there was nothing against Gurmat in it. Bapu Maha Singh ji said that If you were doing this for something else, then it would have been against Maryada, but now its all about Maharaj and Prem and where there is Prem, everything is justified.
(This incident has been mentioned here to tell the Sangat the amount of respect and trust Sant ji had in Baba Thakur Singh Ji and Baba Maha Singh ji and also spiritual prowess and power of Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa.)

During Operation Bluestar, Army surrounded Gurudwara Gurdarshan Parkash, Headquarters of DamDami Taksal at Mehta Chowk. Baba Thakur Singh Ji had been asked to remain Gupt by Santji and Baba Maha Singh Ji Mataur was looking after sewa at Taksal. When Tanks surrounded Gurudwara, Army officers asked all the Singhs to come out and surrender. Babaji knew the Army would then bombard the Gurudwara Sahib and demolish it. Baba Maha Singh Ji Mataur sat down near Nishan Sahib and asked the Army to do what they want, either shoot them, bomb them o whatever, but they would not come out of Gurudwara Sahib. There were only handful of Singh at Taksal and they also came and sat with Babaji. Villagers also came hearing the news and sat down near Babaji. Babaji started Chaupai Sahib Jaap near Nishan Sahib and asked the Army to do what the wanted to do. It was the Partaap of Baani and Babaji’s Kamaai and simran that although Army kept a Ghera of Taksal for three days, but Tanks didn’t enter Gurudwara Sahib nor was a shot fired towards Maharaj. The Army officer, leading the attack was so amazed by Babaji’s Darshan and words that He took back his troops without firing a bullet.
Baba Thakur Singh ji came back to Mehta Chowk in August 1984. Here Baba Thakur Singh Ji requested Baba Maha Singh ji to do Ardas to Maharaj that Indira be punished as soon as possible. Babaji did Ardas at feet of Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj and within 40 days, Bhai Satwant Singh and Bhai Beant Singh Ji finished Indira. Baba Thakur Singh ji distributed sweets that day and also pledged to look after families of Singhs who punished Indira Gandhi. Deepmaala was also done at Gurudwara Gurdarshan Parkash.

Later during Freedom movement, SSP Gobind Raam was brutally killing Singhs and families of Jhujaroo Singhs. Inhuman torture was inflicted upon Bibiya and small children.  This pained Baba Thakur Singh Ji much and Babaji again asked Baba Maha Singh ji to do Ardas to Maharaj that ‘’Maharaj kirpa karo, Gobind Ram di jarh patti jaaye’’.
Babaji did Ardas and within days, Baba Jugraaj Singh ji (KLF) blew up Gobind Ram, but interestingly, His only son was shot dead a few days before his death by Singhs.  Gobind Ram’s root had been uprooted from this world; Waheguru had heard Ardas of his beloved Mahapurakhs.

After divisions in ranks of Jhujaroo Jathebandis, Baba Thakur Singh ji sensed the future of movement. Panth was going through most turbulent period and bloody period and Babaji asked all the Singhs to do Naam Kamaai and Baani Jaap for Charhdi Kala of Panth. Baba Maha Singh ji used to remain immersed in Naam Baani for hours at length.

After Baba Thakur Singh Ji Khalsa Ji left for Sachkhand on 24th December 2004,  enemies of Panth colluded and took over DamDami Taksal’s Headquarters, Gurudwara Gurdarshan Parkash and going against bachans of Baba Thakur Singh ji, did Shaheedi di Ardas of Sant Baba Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa. All the senior Singhs of Taksal were insulted and forced to leave Mehta Chowk. Baba Thakur Singh ji had already told what would happen after them and they had ordered Singhs to be peaceful and calm, as justice would be done one day. Following Babaji’s bachans, Singhs left Taksal and went to different places. Baba Maha Singh Ji Mataur also came to his house near Chandigarh and continued his Baani Jaap here till his last breath.

Babaji’s Nitnem was as follows.
Panj Baaniya da Jaap
101 Japji Sahib de Paath and Beant Baaniya of Guru Nanak Dev ji
Baani of Guru Angad Dev ji
Baani of Guru Amardaas ji
Baani of Guru Raamdas ji
Baani of Guru Arjan Dev ji
Baani of Guru Teg Bahadur ji
Baani of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj.
( It was Babaji’s Nitnem to do few chosen Baaniya of each Satguru ji everyday and this routine continued till his last day)

Living according to Bachans of Sant Giani Kartar Singh Ji Khalsa, Baba Maha Singh Mataur lived a life of Baani. His inner self had become One with Maharaj’s Baani, Baani Saroop. Guru lived in those Mahapurakh’s heart, in his bachans. Santji had said that while Singhs fight in battlefield, you do Naam Kamaai to help them spiritually and Babaji lived according to bachans of Mahapurakhs. He said many times to Baba Thakur Singh ji that I also want to attain Shaheedi, but Babaji always said Babaji your sewa is to read Baani. Its with Kamaii and Ardas of Gursikhs like you that one day Khalsa Panth will attain Freedom and Charhdi Kala once again.

Kotaan Kot Parnaam to Brahmgianis like Baba Maha Singh Ji Mataur.

Shaheed Jathedar Baba Thaara Singh Ji

Damdami Taksal is the inheritor of True Khalsa spirit of Sewa-Simran-Sacrifice. It was a religious university run by Baba Deep Singh ji and Bhai Mani Singh ji, whose military wing was known as Shaheed Jatha and later as Misal Shaheedan. This was Taksal of Sant-Sipahis. After 1764, when Baba Gurbaksh Singh ji divided it in two parts, one Jatha was to preach Gurbaani and conduct Amrit Sanchar, while Military wing was to fight for Panth whenever need arose. From this Jatha of Sant-Sipahis came Generals, Sants and Sipahis such as Baba Taara Singh ji, Bhai Taru Singh ji, Nawab Kapoor Singh ji, Baba Naina Singh ji, Baba Phoola Singh ji , Giani Bhai Sant Singh ji and millions of others great souls.

Early Life

Jathedar Baba Thaara Singh ji was born in 1924 in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. His earlier name was Dhian Singh. When Vadde Mahapurakh, Baba Gurbachan Singh ji did katha in Aurangabad, Dhian Singh was insired to take Amrit. After taking Amrit, his name was changed to Avtar Singh. Babaji got this name, Avtar Singh, inscribed on his left arm. Few weeks later, he joined Jatha and came to Punjab and started living in Taksal as Vidyarthi. Immersed in Naam-Sewa-Santhya, Babaji soon attained awastha of Gurmukh and became very close to Sant Baba Kartar Singh Ji Khalsa.

Baba ‘Thaara Singh’

Baba Thaara Singh ji (Bhai Avtar Singh ji) was basically from Maharashtra. There had been a Sikh Sant near Mumbai, Baba Thaahira Singh ji, whose Gurudwara still stands in Ulhasnagar. Sant Kartar Singh Ji Khalsa used to listen Saakhiya and Katha of Baba Thaahira Singh Ji’s Jeevan from Bhai Avtar Singh Ji. Everyday Santji would listen to Jeevan of Mahapurakhs and soon a time came, when Santji would call Bhai Avtar Singh  as ‘Thaahira Singh’.  Santji would say, ‘Avtar Singh, I haven’t had Darshan of those Mahapurakhs, but I see him within you when you narrate his jeevan’. And soon , Bhai Dhian Singh a.k.a Bhai Avtar Singh ji became Baba Thaara Singh Ji.
(After Bluestar, when Army was looking for Babaji’s body, they found it but when time to identify came, they got confused because on the left arm was written the name ‘Avtar Singh’. Army was confused for days when someone told them that it was actually Baba Thaara Singh’s body whose previous name was Avtar Singh).

Sewa In Taksal

Sant Kartar Singh ji, 13th Jathedar of Taksal met an accident in 1977, and refused to get his hair cut for operation due to which he left his body. After him Sant Jarnail Singh ji was appointed Jathedar of Damdami Taksal by Baba Thakur Singh, Baba Thaara Singh ji and other Singhs of Taksal according to wish and Hukam of Sant Baba Kartar Singh Ji Khalsa. Santji had the mission of shaping Sikh panth’s destiny and reviving the Shaheedi spirit of Baba Deep Singh ji Shaheed in Panth.

It was at this time Santji left for Parchar in villages, cities of Punjab and rest of India. He appointed Jathedar Baba Thaara Singh ji for sewa of Gurudwara Gurdarshan Parkash(Headquarters of Taksal). He was incharge to look after Sewa, Santhya and other administrative duties at Taksal. Babaji along with Baba Thakur Singh ji was one of the senior most Singhs of Taksal who had come to Mehta chowk with Sant Kartar Singh ji. He did all the sewa with utmost devotion as Hukam of Guru Gobind Singh ji. Singhs of all Jathebandis had great respect for him due to his self-less sewa and high spiritual jeevan. He was also guide of warrior group of Taksal, which Sant Kartar Singh was creating under Sant Jarnail Singh ji, including Singhs like Baba Manochahal, Bhai Usmaan Singh ji, Bhai Dalbir Singh Abhyaasi and others. These very Singhs in future were to become great Shaheeds of Panth.

During Santji’s Bombay, Haryana and Delhi tour in 81-82, Babaji was doing Sewa at Mehta chowk. When Santji was arrested by Punjab police in 82, he appointed Baba Thaara Singh ji as incharge of Sewa at taksal. After he returned after 28 days, Santji started Sikhi Parchar with more determination and Bir-ras. Government was worried about Santji’s intentions, so it tried its best to stop Santji. But as it tried, Parchar grew stronger. There were attempts at Santji;s life, Pothis of Guru Granth Sahib ji, gutka Sahibs and other baani pothis were burnt by police in chando kala in Haryana, which deeply hurt Santji. He started giving a new shape to parchar, turning it into movement for Sikh rights and freedom.

It was at this time Government took the extreme step and one day arrested some Singhs of Taksal. During their hearing in court, Bhai Amrik Singh ji and Baba Thara Singh ji were sent by Santji to take care of Singhs and the case. As these Gurmukhs reached court complex, they too were arrested without any charges. When Santji heard about Bhai Sahib’s and babaji’s arrest, he was deeply pained. Santji was unwell that day and doctors had put him on glucose.Despite being unwell, Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa reached with his Jatha at Akaal takhat Sahib on 18th July 1982 and did Ardas at feet of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. Santji declared Dharam yudh morcha that day whose aim was ‘’ not just to free Bhai Amrik Singh ji and Baba Thaara Singh ji but whole Sikh panth from shackles of Slavery’’! He did this Ardas also at Akaal Takhat sahib and vowed to continue the morcha till Khalsa Panth emerged victorious, till Fateh wasn’t achieved.

Morcha continued for many months and government, due to pressure of Panth dropped fake charges against Bhai Sahib and Babaji, and freed them from jail. But Santji was determined to take the morcha to its final mission, Freedom of Khalsa Panth. As the parchar grew and Sikh youth started taking amrit in thousands, there was a Sikh revival movement in Punjab under command of Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa and Damdami Taksal. 33 Sikh Jathebandis supported Santji in this mission. As people said in 19th century, ‘’there is nothing as dangerous as a united Sikh nation’’! Indian government too feared the day Sikhs would smash its imperialist and fascist set-up in Punjab. Preparations to crush Sikh movement were started by Delhi and here in Amritsar, Santji too started preparing to defend the Dharam yudh morcha and Akaal takhat.

Defense positions were established in and outside Parkarma of Harimandir sahib. Important positions were set-up at Langar hall roof, Bunga Ramgarhia , Water tank, on Complex entrance from Langar, Dakhani Deorhi and Ghanta Ghar. These were to be the first resistance posts of Defenders. Baba Thaara Singh ji was given command of Langar Hall and Bunga Ramgarhia position. Bhai Amrik Singh Ji also stayed in this position till evening of 5th June. When the Indian Army attacked Darbar sahib complex on morning of 4th June 1984, around 50 Singhs defending these positions under Baba Thaara Singh ji gave a tough resistance and repulsed numerous attacks. Singhs held on to their defenses and forced invading army to retreat, until they brought in artillery guns and Tanks to destroy jhujharoo positions. It was on night of 4th june, that continuous bombing of jhujharoo positions by Guns and Tanks resulted in Shaheediya of many Singhs and all the morchas which were at an high altitude were destroyed. Baba Thaara Singh ji was on Langar roof with Singhs and had LMGs and other guns. But they were no match to artillery bombs and Tanks. This position too was demolished and many Singh attained Shaheedi. After the posts at Water Tank, Langar Roof and Bunga were demolished; Bhai Major Singh Nagoke and Bhai Dalbir Singh Abhyaasi went inside Bunga Ramgarhia and continued fighting till 9th of June.

Baba Thaara Singh ji, Bhai Bua Singh, Bhai Ajaib Singh Mahakaal and some other Jujaroos went inside Parkarma and took positions near Dukh Bhanjani Beri. Despite being wounded, Babaji continued to defend the eastern entrance of Darbar Sahib, from where Tanks were to be brought in. Whole night of 5th June, he held on to his position and kept fighting, with other great Singhs by his side. But Singhs had no reinforcements, no medical help, nothing to eat, no one to come to their rescue. It was a fight to finish. Babaji had a wireless conversation with Santji on 5th June Amrit vela and said his last Fateh to Santji and told Santji that He was going to attain Shaheedi. Santji’s eyes got wet with love and affection after hearing last words of Baba Thaara Singh ji, who along with Baba Thakur Singh ji had been a father-figure to Santji in Taksal. As Santji said his final Fateh to Buzurg Jathedar, who was 60 years old that time, Singhs gave out jaikaaras at Akaal takhat. Till now Indian army had launched a massive offensive to destroy the position of Baba Thaara Singh ji. As Singhs came under heavy gunfire, numerous bullets pierced Babaji’s chest, stomach and head. Baba Thaara Singh ji attained supreme Shaheedi at the feet of Guru Arjan Dev ji, near Dukh Bhanjani beri on Amrit Vela of 5th June. He was First Jathedar of Khalsa Fauj to attain Shaheedi in Operation Bluestar.

During his conversation with Santji on morning of 5th June, Babaji had said,’Santji, don’t forget you have done Ardas to free Khalsa Panth from Slavery. And being spiritual descendant of Baba Deep Singh ji, you have to fulfil this Ardas, for honour of Taksal and Panth’. Santji replied in positive and promised to Babaji that Morcha will continue till Fateh, no matter what happens.

And its our firm belief, with blood of Brahmgianis like Baba Thaara Singh ji and Bachans of Baba Thakur Singh ji, Khalsa Panth will definitely win this War of Freedom one day.

Sri Akaal ji Sahai.

Sukhmani Sahib and Mahapurakhs

A human, on average takes 24000 breaths everyday. sri sukhmani sahib has 21624 words, and 273 words which ae used in the feet of the akhars. Aded toghether this makes exactly 2400 words. Dhan Guru Arjan dev jee has blessed us so much, and given us this gift of sri sukhmani sahib. Any one who reads one sri sukhmani sahib da paat , every breath they take is 'safal.'

So we may ask, what about mahapursh? They are on the avastha of swaas swaas simran, why do they need sri sukhmani sahib. In puratan and varatmaan itihaas we can see that mahapursh never let go of sri sukhmani sahib.

1. Sant kamal Singh of Kamalpur Used to recite Five sri sukhmani sahib paats everyday, and then used to get millions of paats done by the sangis there.

2.Sant Uttam singh jee used to recite sri sukhmani sahib all day from memory.

3. Sant nihchal singh ji, sant jawahar singh ji mittha tiwana, sant gulab singh noorpur, sant hardarshan singh used to recite two paats of sri sukhmani sahib everyday.

4. Baba nand singh jee used to listen to 5 sri sukhmani sahib de paat from their sewak. Baba Nand singh jee specialy recognised the power of sukhmani sahib. There was a time at nanaksar when kaljug wanted to interfere with the bhagti going on there. Baba nand singh did hukam to start a 24 hour , day and night sukhmani sahib paat akhand paat , which is still going 2day at nanaksar at the same place. Kaljug themselves said to baba ji , there is one thing i can't bear and that is sukhmani sahib ! Baba ji laughed and said you yourselves have given us the solution to the problem, we will now never stop sukhmani sahib here! In nanaksar great stress is laid on sukhmani sahib, and all mahapurshs of nanaksar ( baba isher singh ji, baba kundan singh ji, baba sadhu singh ji, poojniye baba gurdev singh jee and so on) do numerous paats of sri sukhmani sahib in their nitnem, and tell others to do it ( aap jape , avreh naam japaveh.)

5. Srimaan Vidya maartand Sant giani gurbachan singh jee khalsa bhindrawale used to read panj granthi everyday , which includes sukhmani sahib. while on long journeys doing parchar, many sewaks would fall asleep , but sant ji would not sleep until he had done sri sukhmani sahib da paat + nitnem etc.

6. In the sewapanthi Samparda, it is their maryada to do Sukhmani Sahib As nitnem ( 1 atleast) everyday.

7. Sant Hira singh jee recited sukhmani sahib their whole life.

8. A companion of Bhai Randheer singh Jee , bhai aatma singh jee , as soon as he used to wake up sri sukhmani sahib used to start in his surtee ( mind) and he used to complete it in 15 minutes.

9. Another interesting example is that of Sant Mani singh jee's ( birmingham) companion ,bhai amrik singh. He was sehajdhari at first but then took amrit. He became great friends with sant mani singh jee, and sometime later sant ji asked them " what is your nitnem?" out of humility he said he didn't feel right to answer such a question , but as they were a mahapursh he would have to comply. Bhai sahib jee said had an amazing spiritual jeevan. He used to do 5 Siri Sukhmani Sahibs a day plus 250 Siri Chaupai Sahibs a day other then his normal nitnem ( panj bania etc). Once he did Ardaas to do 50 Siri Sukhmani Sahib paaths for Bhai Mani Singh's health and he completed these paaths in 3 days. ( as per teachings of mahapursh , 50 sukhmani sahibs = 1 sri sehaj paat sahib. Baba Nand Singh jee used to give parshaad of bani to sangis - i.e. tell each sangi to read 2 sukhmani sahibs a day etc to make the full paath in the month.)

Satguru Sahib Kirpa karan, and bless everyone with the precious gift of sri sukhmani sahib Nitnem.

The Great Gursikh Jeevan of Baba Khajaan Singh

Baba Khazaan Singh were the father of Sant Sunder Singh Bhindranwalay (11th Jathedhar of Guru Ji's Damdami Taksal). Sant Sunder Singh jee Bhindranwaalay was a great Gursikh who led an exemplary life, did massive parchaar of Sikhi, inspired countless to take amrit and taught Gurbani and Gurbani meanings to countless students, in his short life of 42 years or so. While many have heard about the Gurmukhi life of Sant Sunder Singh jee, few are aware of how great his father was. This is a feeble attempt by this insect to write something on the great life of Baba Khazaan Singh jee.

This is based on Dr Sher Singh's book on Sant Sunder Singh, Sant Gurbachan Singh's coverage of Sant Sunder Singh's life and oral narrations from Gursikhs from time to time.

Baba Khazaan Singh was the middle son of Baba Makhan Singh the grandfather of Sant Sunder Singh jee. Here are some highlights of Baba jee's jeevan:

1) Baba jee was a simple farmer who worked hard to earn bread for his family. He was from village Bhinder Kalan in Ferozepur district of Punjab.

2) Baba jee was extremely honest. He never let even a grain not belonging to him, come to his home. While working in his fields, he used to constantly do Naam Simran and Gurbani paath.

3) He got married to a very Gurmukhi bibi Mata Taab Kaur jee. She was not educated but due to her husband's satsangat, she developed keen interest and love for Gurbani.

4) Baba jee had great urge to have darshan of Guru Sahib. In year 1887, a year before the birth of Sant Sunder Singh jee, at the time of Avtaar Purab of Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee, Baba jee decided to go all out for darshan of Guru Sahib. He committed to doing strict amritvela and doing one Siri Sukhmani Sahib standing on one leg, 3 hours and 45 minutes before sunrise. Just few days had passed while engaging in day night paath like this that Baba jee was hit with extreme Bairaag. He gave up all interest in world and started doing bhajan day and night. At the behest of some gursikhs, who asked him to come in Sehaj Avastha, he started taking care of his worldly duties again.

5) Before the birth of Sant Sunder Singh, Baba jee did 36 lakh (3.6 million) jaap of Mool Mantr.

6) Later in his life he did 125,000 jaap of Siri Jap jee Sahib.

7) Later in his years he did 101 Paaths of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee in the span of 3 years. This means about 3 Sehaj paaths a month. Along with this he did 36 lakh paaths of Mool Mantr, all within 3 years. This means massive paath a day, for three years.

8 He used to do at least 100 angs worth of baani a day.

9) He used to do 3300 jaap of Mool Mantra a day.

10) He had about 100 angs of baani fully memorized.

11) He used to wear only Khaddar.

12) He was a very strict amritdhaari.

13) He never let a day pass without going to Gurdwara Sahib.

14) He used to eat only once a day at 10am.

15) Before eating food, he used to look for someone to share with. Reading the life of Baba jee, I was surprised. So much kamaayee and no one knows his name. I have no doubt that even today there are many gupt gursikhs out there about whom we know nothing. Hearing about kamaayee of Baba jee I feel like putting my nose in a chapnee and dying. May Guru Sahib do kirpa on us and may we lead our life like Baba jee and other great gursikhs.

(This is not translated by me, but a post i found many years ago on the internet.)

Satkaar of Guru Granth Sahib ji

It was the year of 1976, and Akhand Keertani jatha had a Kirtan Programme and Mehta Sahib. Akhand Paat Sahib Had Happened , but Guru Sahib had not been taken to sukhasan asthaan because a rehansabai was going on. At around 12 am that night, Sant Kartar Singh Jee and many other singhs ( sant jarnail singh etc.) were on the top of the langar hall building of Mehta Headquaters. Sant kartar singh jee were resting on a Manjaa at the time. All of a sudden the Manjaa toppled over and Sant Kartar Singh Jee fell on the ground. All the singhs were shocked at how the bed toppled over without sant jee moving or any one pushing it. Sant Jee without saying anything ran to the Diwaan and all the other Singh's followed.

Sant Jee told his Garrwai Singh to wash his feet. While the Kirtan was going on Sant jee did Sukhasan, Took Guru sahib jee to the Sukhasan Asthaan, brought another saroop of guru sahib then did parkaash. When Sant Jee went back into the diwaan, they did the following bachan to all the sangat there. That Guru Gobind Singh jee themselves got Sant ji by the ear and threw him off the manjaa and said , ' Kartaar Singh , you are the sewadaar of this place. It is your duty to do my sewa, but you are lying on a bed while Guru sahib Has been parkash for the past three days and sukhasan still had'd been done tonight. At the time Sant Ji were very upset and kept asking forgiveness at the Feet of satguru. They said to the sangat - Guru Granth Sahib Ji are God on Earth but why can't we even do their Satkaar properly? They are Akaal Purakh Vaheguru's Sargun form, blessing us moorakhs with their darshan.

Sant Gurbachan Singh jee’s Abhyaas of Gurbani

Sant Gurbachan Singh jee’s Abhyaas of Gurbani

One time Sant Kartar singh ‘premi’ asked sant Gurbachan Singh ji that any line we give from Guru Granth sahib you can automatically tell us which’ Ang ‘ it is on, how did your abhyaas of Gurbani get to this extraordinary stage? Sant ji said that before coming to Sant Baba Sundar Singh Ji he had done over 500 Sehaj Paats. This is something we all need incorporate into our lives; doing sehaj paat of Sat guru Granth Sahib Daily. If we ask any random Sikh, even many amritdharis, we see that many people have not even done Darshan under the Ramala sahibs of Guru jee, Let alone doing Complete darshan of Guru jee ( Sehaj paat.)

Once, when Sant jee were abit younger, they went to Singhawale Pind to do akhand paat raul. After doing their raul, Sant jee went to his Aasan and layed down and went to sleep. From the exact Pangti, ang they left their raul at, they started doing paat from there from memory in their sleep.

One time Sant ji went to Pind Rode to do Sri Akhand paat Sahib. Baba Hazara Singh, the elder brother of Sant Ji was also with them. Sant Jee did raul from 2am to 4am and then went to go to rest. Sant Ji had left his raul at this Pangti:

'aapae aap varathadhaa piaaraa aapae aap apaahu'

My Beloved Lord Himself pervades and permeates all; He Himself is, all by Himself.

While sleeping he started Paat from this exact pangti where he had left off. They read many angs. Bhai hazara singh brought all the other paati singhs and they were all left shocked at how Sant ji’s abhiaas of Gurbani was so advanced. When Sant ji was around 7 Years of age they had become a very good paati. Nowadays many people undermine Paatis, but being a proper paati is quite an accomplishment. Only such person can be called an Akhand Paathi who can do at least 60 angs in 2 hours i.e. one ang in 2 minutes. There is no easy way to become a Paathi. To be a Paathi, either one has to have Kamaayee from previous Janams, or pure Kirpa of Guru Sahib or do it the regular way - Hard work.

Before coming to Sant Baba Sundar Singh Jee , Sant Gurbachan Singh Jee used to to 5 nitnems everyday. Sant Sundar Singh Jee told them to do 1 themselves and listen to another from any singh. When asked why they did so many nitnems, their reply was that any nitnem I missed from childhood or when i was ill etc i am doing them now.

Sant Ji's life was ; Gurbani :
mai gurabaanee aadhhaar hai gurabaanee laag rehaao 8
I have the Support of the Word of the Guru's Bani. Attached to Gurbani, I survive. 8

Shaheed Bhai Surinder Singh ji Sodhi

Parnaam on Shaheedi Diwas

Bhai Surinder Singh Sodhi was the bravest of soldiers of Khalsa Panth in 20th century, forever ready to lay down his life for Panth, always tyar bar tyar to punish any Panth-dokhi, guru-nindak and carry out justice for Shaheed singhs who were killed in illegal police custody or encounters.

Bhai sahib had darshan of Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa in 1980. He was with Misal Shaheeda Tarna Dal, Harian wela then, doing sangat of Baba Nihal Singh ji. His close friend, Bhai Manbir Singh chaheru, had joined Taksal in 1980 and Sodhi had gone to Tarna Dal, but soon he joined ranks of Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa and vowed to remain with him till his last breath. He was a Charhdi Kala Gursikh, jovial, helpful and always imbued in Naam Baani. He carried out ‘Chalisa’ in Parikarma of Sri Harimandir sahib and had an 8 hour long Nitnem. He went in Samadhi many times during those years, getting up after 3-4 days. A heavenly fragrance was always emanating from his body, as was the case with Sant ji too. Gursikhs who have been with him told me that he was the one loved most by Santji, for his Spiritual awastha, his dedication, his love. Every word of Santji was like God’s command for him. He had piercing eyes, capable of seeing inside the mind of next person. No traitor ever passed his glance. He was a Handsome Gursikh, and Santji called him ‘Babbu’ with love. Whole Jatha of Damdami Taksal loved him, respected him and listened to his orders. From 1980 to 14th april 1984, he remained a dedicated soldier of Khalsa Panth, punishing traitors of Khalsa Panth.

Bhai Surinder Singh ji Sodhi, The Brave heart was once given a special message by Santji to be delivered to a Singh in a nearby village. But there was police cordon around Sri Amritsar and no one could pass without being checked. Sodhi took one of the most extraordinary routes to that village, he took his favourite ‘’Bullet’’ motorcycle on the railway tracks and drove it on tracks to reach that village. Villagers around Amritsar who had seen this feat still remember the day Sodhi did this, For Santji.

He was the one who got inside Punjab legislative assembly and shot secretary of Punjab Government who had issued oppressive orders against Panthic Singhs. BJP MLA, Harbans laal Khanna, who had carried out a violent procession of Hindus in Amritsar, which broke Model of Sri Darbar sahib at Amritsar railway station, threw cigarettes in face of Guru Ram Daas ji’s photo and gave out slogans like ‘’ Kacchh Kara Kirpaan, ehnu bhejo Pakistan’’, Dukki tikki rehan nai deni, Sir te Pagri rehan nai deni’’, was punished by Bhai sahib ji in a week’s time, when he was sitting in his shop with his bodyguards. Other singh involved in this action was Bhai labh singh ji.

List of Bhai sahib’s courageous acts is very long, and I’ll share with you all in due time. Bhai sahib ji was the most trusted soldier of Santji and never went against his orders. Enemy of Sikhs, Bhajan laal who had committed atrocities on Sikhs and got Sikhs killed in panipat was on the Hit-list of Singhs. Sodhi was sent for this mission by Santji, but on a condition. He was to shoot Bhajan laal ‘only’ if he could make it back to Santji. Sodhi, guised as a Navy officer, reached his office, sat with him and had tea. There were policemen and commandoes all around Bhajan laal. Sodhi called Santji and said it’s my last Fateh. I’m going to finish the Dusht but I’m not coming back. Santji ordered him that very moment to abort the mission and return, as he was needed. Sodhi had to return that day, and this showed how much Love and affection they both had for each other. Santji used to say ‘’ He is my son, not only in this life but from ages’’.

Enemies within Sikhs, people like Longowal, Badal were working against Santji. They comspired to get Santji and Sodhi killed. Assassins were paid Rs.50 lakhs for killing Santji and 25 lakhs to kill Surinder Singh Sodhi. Government agencies wanted Sodhi out at any cost. They knew how much important he was for Sant Jarnail Singh ji, how he was his right-hand man, his trouble-shooter. They planned to handicap Santji by killing Sodhi. There was a big fear among agencies, as they knew that Surinder Singh sodhi was trained in Anti-tank mines and Anti-tank missiles. In case of an operation by the Army, he would have proved a big hurdle in getting to Santji and Akaal Takhat. So Longowal, his secretary Gurcharan, and Agencies of government paid 25 lakh rupees to a known smuggler Surinder Shinda and his keep baljit kaur. On 14th april 1984, Baljit called Sodhi to a tea shop near parikarma on pretext of sharing her problem with him, as she had convinced him that she looked upon him as her brother and wanted him to rescue her from the custody of Shinda. As Sodhi came in tea shop and sat, she started talking. Shinda appeared and shot bullets in Bhai sahib’s chest, but he didn’t fell and tried taking out his revolver. Then both of them shot at Bhai Sahib from their revolvers. Bhai sahib took 12 bullets in his body and fell down. As he lay in pool of blood, the assassins ran away. News of Sodhi’s Shaheedi spread like a jungle fire, and Santji was deeply pained. His words were ‘Today my Right arm has been cut, I’ve lost my beloved son, my Tiger has been killed, but killers should remember, I’m still alive’’. A plate was hanged on the door of Guru Ramdas langar, on which Sodhi’s killers were promised to be punished in 24 hours. And Singhs did take revenge of Sodhi’s shaheedi in 24 hours, punishing all the people involved in Shaheedi of Bhai Surinder singh Sodhi.

How killers of Veer Sodhi were punished -

Singhs had telephone exchange of Amritsar under their control. Any call, incoming or outgoing was under surveillance by Singhs like Bhai Labh Singh and Harminder Singh sandhu. They heard telephonic conversations between Shinda and Gurcharan, PA of Akali dal chief Longowal. Thats how they got to know who the killer was. Shinda was helped by Punjab police and Agencies, but as soon as Singhs got to know real thing, Baba manochahal, Manbir Singh, Bhai Labh Singh, Bhai Major singh and Raam singh guised as Punjab Police DSP and constables put up a barricade on GT road outside Amritsar. In midnight, Shinda arrived in a Police jeep with a constable who was to take him to safety. Baba manochahal, the DSP, stopped and said he wants to check the car. Shinda was drunk, he said Sahab, i've finished your biggest headache and you are searching my car? Babaji dragged him out and he was cut in 7 pieces by Babaji and other singhs. Baljit kaur was electrocuted. The tea shop owner was shot dead and Bhatia, a businessman from Amritsar was shot dead by Singhs for housing Shinda and her keep. Next day, as Funeral pyre of Sodhi was burning, Punjab police people brought the badly mutilated bodies of Shinda and her keep to same cremation ground in sacks and burned them secretly.

Kesri Parnaam to Veer Sodhi-

Bhai sahib’s life is an example of spirit of Khalsa. In 18th century, it was Bhai Sukha Singh, who is still remembered for his brave and daring acts, for punishing panth-dokhis. Bhai Shaib was Sukha Singh of 20th century. He was a true soldier, A Sant, gurmukh, Abhyasi of Naam baani, believed in Panthic unity and ever ready to lay down his life for cause of panth. His name struck fear in hearts of enemies of Panth, and a wave of Charhdi kala in minds of gursikhs. He'll be an inspiration for Sikh youth for ages to come.

Khalsa panth will always remember ‘Tiger of Santji’ for his Supreme Sacrifice.

Sri Akaal ji Sahai

Without True Satguru

Sixth Satguru, Guru Hargobind Sahib ji Maharaj, during his stay at Daroli Bhai ki, one day went for Hunting in nearby Jungles. As Satguruji and Jatha of Sikhs reached jungle and started hunting, there came a heavy sound, like of a trumpet. The sound was coming from bushes nearby, and as Sikhs moved forward to see what was making noise, they saw a large python lying in bushes and groaning with pain. Satguruji rode his horse towards the big snake and ordered a Sikh to kill it and relieve it of its pain. A Sikh moved forward and killed the snake, and as he died, Satguruji smiled. Gursikhs asked Maharaj, from your smile, we can understand that there is a game of higher realms which has been played here, which we lowly jeevs don’t understand. Please enlighten us about what has happened.

Guru Hargobind Sahib ji maharaj smiled and said, Beloved Gursikhs, this snake was a human in previous birth and pretended to be a holy man, a Sant, and looted hundreds of thousands of people of their money, their honour and their faith in his previous life. He was not a Satguru or Saint, but with help of Ridhi-Sidhi accumulated with power of Jap-tap, he pretended to be one. But he couldn’t liberate himself or his disciples and due to his greed of money, he came back in form of a Snake.  Sikhs asked Maharaj, if he couldn’t liberate himself and his disciples, where are his disciples? Maharaj asked a Sikh to turn snake’s body upside down with his spear and Sikh did same. There were thousands of ants and worms who were eating up snake’s body, causing him pain. Maharaj said ‘ these ants and worms are the disciples of this fake guru who have come back in form of these worms to extract what he had looted from them in previous life’.

This saakhi has been well recorded in all Granths, and shared by nearly every Mahapurakh and Giani. But do we as Sikhs have learnt anything from it? Till today we have Sikhs who go to fake gurus, babas and pakhandis, losing their wealth to greed of these greedy men, their values, their faith, their purity, their dedication to truth and Sikhi of Guru Granth Sahib ji. We have Sikhs who go to Radhaswamis, Sarsewala, Naamdharis, Narkdharis and others cults and sects, leaving path of Gursikhi of Guru Granth Sahib ji. Ask any of their followers and they have a common answer, ‘what our Guruji or Babaji says is written in baani of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. In our Babaji’s dera, Baani is read and discussed, so what is wrong in going to them?’ And it’s true. 99% cults and sects started with their Babas keeping Guru Granth Sahib ji’s saroop in their deras and places. Till today, 95% fake babey in Punjab have saroop of Guru Granth Sahib ji parkash in their deras and homes, but is parkash of Guru Granth Sahib ji and reading of Baani of Guru Granth Sahib ji enough when 99% things going on are against Gursikhi and Gurmat? No, it is not, still Sikhs go to fake gurus, babey and pakhandi sadhus. I have seen Amritdhari Sikhs sitting in deras of radhaswamis and Sarsewala. Can they be called Amritdhari Gursikhs? No, they cannot be called Gursikhs or Khalsa, they may seem like Amritdharis or Sikhs, but they are not. They are not sons and daughters of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj, but slaves of Pakhandi Gurus and Babas.

Why a Sikh needs to go to a baba or sadhu? Don’t we have Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj, our Jaagdi Jot Satguru ji to guide us? Don’t we have Shaheed Singhs of Guru to guide us? Don’t we have Gursikh parcharaks who can help us understand Baani and Gurmat with their Katha and Kirtan? We have, then why a Sikh has to become a Chela of someone who comes between a Sikh and his/her Guru? Why a Sikh needs guidance from someone else when the Merciful Satguruji stands on his/her Sikhs head and makes him understand Baani and Gurmat himself. What does Guru mean? Teacher, master ….so isn’t our Guru capable of, able enough to make us understand Baani, Truth and unite us with Waheguru? Guru is capable, but we Sikhs have lost the Prem, Shardha, dedication and faith on Guru, this is the reason we are suffering, this is the reason we are divided and confused. Maharaj says in Baani-
Kabeer, what can the True Guru do, when His Sikhs are at fault?
The blind do not take in any of His Teachings; it is as useless as blowing into bamboo. ||158||

There is no harm in going to educated and Naam abhyaasi gursikhs to discuss gurbaani if we don’t understand something, there is no harm in doing sangat of a naam abhyaasi gursikh who will tell us about Gurbaani, help us understand Baani and history better, so that our spiritual jeevan is uplifted, but there is no way a Sikh can have blind faith on some one whose teachings contradict Baani of Guru Granth Sahib ji and Jeevans of Brahmgiani Mahapurakhs who have won this game of love, as it is Brahmgiani Mahapurakhs who have lived Baani all their life. Just to clear the point regarding satkaar of Brahmgiani Mahapurakhs, these Mahapurakh Sons of Guru Gobind Singh ji should be respected from heart, as they are Mahapurakhs who have spent their life in service of Panth, helping Sikhs in times of distress, preaching truth of Guru’s Baani to world without expecting anything in return from people, taking pain and suffering of Panth on themselves and feeling pain of entire Panth as their own and giving their lives for Panth instead sitting uselessly like Hindu yogis. Those were the Mahapurakhs who never claimed to be close to Waheguru (which they were), never claimed to ‘Talk to Guru Gobind Singh ji everyday’, never asked people to believe in them as Sant or Baba or Godman. These Mahapurakhs lived Baani in their lives, never talked out of Baani and never cursed anyone (like some so-called pakhandis do today). Such Gursikhs of past and present need to be given full respect and honour as it is Maharaj’s khushi when his beloved Gursikhs are honoured and respected. But in today’s age of Kalyug, it is very difficult and hard to distinguish between truths and false, so it is better to believe in Only Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj and Shaheed Singhs of Panth (who have proved their love for Guru with their blood).

Guru Gobind Singh ji Sahib had warned us 300 years back, of times such as today, when Pakhandis would go out in thousands and loot people’s wealth, destroy their faith and dedication. This was the reason Maharaj asked Sikhs to believe only in Guru Granth Sahib ji , and no one else. Most of us might have heard about the incident where Guru Gobind Singh ji burned alive 700 Masands at Anandpur Sahib. Fifth Satguru Guru Arjan Dev ji started system of Masands, who were deputed to collect Daswandh and other offerings of Sikhs and present them to Guruji. As the time went by, Masands grew stronger and stronger, at times even challenging authority of Guru Sahibs. During Tenth Satguruji’s time, corruption of Masands was at its highest, with sangat from all over the world complaining to Satguruji about high-handedness of Masands, their arrogant and insulting attitude and their misdeeds. Masands used to force poor Sikhs into giving them money, clothes, food and jewels and if some Sikh refused, they used to threaten the Sikhs with ‘Shraap’ (Curse). Frightened by authority Guruji gave to Masands, Sikhs had to fulfil demands of Masands. When Guru Gobind Singh ji came to know about evil ways of Masands, misuse of power given by Guru, Maharaj asked Gursikhs to tie and bring all the Masands to him. 700 Masands were captured and brought to Guruji. Here Guruji put oil in a large cauldron (Deg) and boiled alive the evil masands in that oil. Some were burnt alive on orders of Guruji. Isn’t this amazing? Fifth Satguru ji gives power and authority to Masands but tenth Satguruji burns them alive at Anandpur Sahib and then orders Sikhs in his Hukamnaama ‘not to have any relation with Masands’. Why? What was the reason Satguruji did that? Reason was Guru’s Love for his Sikh. It was a direct lesson by Guru Gobind Singh ji to Sikhs of all the times that whoever will ever try to come between Sikh and Guru, try to act as a middleman between a Sikh and Guru will face the same consequences.  It was proof of Guru Gobind Singh ji’s love to his Sikhs that Maharaj will himself take care of his each and every Sikh, without any need of middleman. And then Maharaj ordered Sikhs not to have any relation with Masands in his Hukamnaamas. Who were these Masands? Maharaj knew, that in all times, there are people who try to act as middlemen between Sikh and Guru, who try to exploit Faith and Love of Sikhs, loot their wealth and money, misuse their faith and love, such people are known as Masands. Maharaj asked his Sikhs to beware of such people and asked Sangat of all times to create a bond of Love with Guru directly, without any middlemen. That was the time Guruji made his Sangat ‘ KHALSA’. (Khalsa in Persian means a territory directly under control of Emperor , with no minister, general or governor having any authority or control over it.) Guru Gobind Singh ji made his Sangat ‘Khalsa’, directly under orders of Guru, without any middlemen.

Are we Khalsa? Ask yourself this question and see within yourself, are we directly under command of Guru Gobind Singh ji? But these Masands are still around. Some started off with keeping Guru Granth Sahib ji in their places, and when Sangat increased, they removed Maharaj’s parkash and became Gurus themselves (i.e – Radhswami, Nirankaari, Sarsewala etc.).
There are hundereds others who have Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj in their places and in garb of Gursikhi, they carry on their own business, of making money and looting people. Whenever a person does some Jap-Tap, he is bound to have some ridhi-sidhi, but people started using these Ridhi-Sidhi just for their own peronsal use, for making wealth, creating their own paths and becoming Gurus. Guru Gobind Singh ji Sahib has beautifully explained this phenomenon in his dialogue with Akaal Puarkh Waheguru, wherein Waheguru Maharaj tell Satguruji about misuse of power given by him.

Then the Immortal Lord established the accomplished ascetics and the saints.
They too were unsuccessful in realizing the Supreme Lord.
They, who happened to be shrewd in the world, Set up their individual creeds.(14)
None could realize the Supreme Lord.
On the contrary, they spread enmity, conflict and ego.
Just as the tree is ablaze with the fire of its leaves, rubbing each other. (The populace was burning by the fire of spite, enmity and ego.)
But none followed the highway of the Lord.(15)
They, who attained a little spiritual power, Started their individual faiths.
And none recognized the Supreme Lord. Rather such people became mad with ego.(16)

With the power given by Satguruji, these people start distorting Baani and Sikhi, creating their individual groups and cults. What more ninda and beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib ji could be done, then keeping Satguruji as a source of looting innocent but stupid people? And Amritdhari Gursikhs are no exception. There are Babas out there with round turbans and different chole, showing off as Gursikhs and looting people coming to them, taking over their minds by claiming to talk to Guru Gobind Singh ji and pursuing their own evil motives. I have come across many such people in my life, who in hope of making me their chela and becoming a middleman between me and my Satguruji, have tried their best by using all the means possible. But it has been Maharaj’s kirpa, despite all the bad phases in life, all the sufferings I have undergone, I never accepted ANY Dehdhari as a middleman between me and my Guru. My Sikhi, my Love, my relation to my Guru is based on Satguruji’s Kirpa. Sikhi belongs to Guru, and this thread of Love, which Guru has held in his hands, can never be broken, because Satguruji is merciful and merciful Satguru is holding an unbreakable thread. A Sikh can be weak at times, but Guru never gives up on his Sikh. It is Guru’s Kirpa with which he takes out his Sikh from hardest of times, with his Sikhi and faith intact. And such a Sikh, whose life Guru holds in his hands, can never go far from Guru. But this is game of Love, and not everyone plays it and not everyone understands it. Only those who are blessed by Satguruji and Immortal souls of Shaheeds can emerge victorious in this, not those who leave Guru, forget Guru’s bachans, and back out from Ardas done at Guru’s feet. They can never experience the Ras of Guru’s Love.

Guru Gobind Singh ji warned his Sikhs of these situations, and said that those who’ll stick to feet of Guru Granth Sahib ji will always stay in Charhdi kala, but those who’ll wander around will never attain peace. And where is peace for a Sikh except in Guru’s Charan? Ask those who go to fakers, ask them, do they have peace? Do they feel love of Guru and Waheguru? Do they feel mercy of Guru? Do they feel uplifted and close to God, to peace, to joy? Answer will be NO. Because baani of Guru Granth Sahib ji clearly states

Those dealers who abandon their Lord and Master and attach themselves to another, are drowned.
The True Guru is the boat, but few are those who realize this.

I’ll not talk about others, I myself have come across people who misguide people in name of Guru and Sikhi, who, in their ego and pride of mental powers have tried to take over my mind, who, to fulfil their ulterior motives have tried to misguide me and take me down from path of Sikhi, and mind it, these people are not holy, not spiritual, within them lies demons of evil, which doesn’t let them be in peace, which keeps in them fire of Haume and Ahankaar burning. I have had my experiences with such people, and one such was with a Baba who asked me to ‘leave my past life’s relations and commitments’ (My parents, my mission, my home and my beliefs). I refused, and the person tried his best to bring me down, by misusing his Ridhi-Sidhis, and in the process he succeeded, by making my body and mind suffer, by taking away from me some things I valued and I Loved, which meant a lot to me, but after going through a hard battle of suffering, Guru Gobind Singh ji’s Kirpa saved me, took me out of the hell I was in, saved my Sikhi and my Faith. The Baba wanted me to be his chela, and I was stubborn not to be chela of anyone except Guru Granth Sahib ji and Shaheed Singhs of Guru, and there was a battle. In this battle, I didn’t have powers like him, but I had my Guru, Shaheed Singhs to help me and protect me and I was saved, scars of that time are still there on my body and my mind, and my health took a severe beating due to this, but I learnt some lessons out of that. Biggest lesson was, a Sikh should completely avoid going to anyone who claims to be a Sant- Sadhu and Baba, flaunts his powers openly, and tries to be a middleman between you and guru, as middleman is equal to Masand. Had I not gone to his place, I would not have gone through the hell I went through, and that was the lesson, that when a Sikh places his hopes on anyone except his Guru, his Father, His best friend, Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj, that Sikh is bound to suffer. I understood it, some people didn’t. And some people will never understand, with their blind faith in blind people, which will eventually lead them to dark pit of hell, the fire where no one will come to save them. Just like that snake and the ants eating him up, all these pakhandis out there, and the people who leave True Satguru, Guru Granth Sahib ji, will suffer one day. It may look that these people who go to fakes are happy, joyous, prosperous from outside, but deep inside, deep somewhere, they are blank, they are empty, and they are life-less. And Gursikhs maybe going through hard times, suffering, but Gursikhs have a bright future. Suffering on path of Guru makes a Gursikh firm in his faith and his ideals, the suffering gives power to Gursikh to walk more firmly on this path of love. This is the power of Guru’s Love.

Today the Panth is broken and divided and weakened, reason is, we Sikhs have left our faith in Satguru Guru Granth Sahib ji. We see Guru Granth Sahib ji as a book, nothing else, we don’t fear Guru, we don’t Love Guru, we don’t keep up our commitments and Ardas to Guru, we have lost the respect and Love for Guru Sahib. And when a Sikh loses Love and faith, he becomes empty from inside, weakened, and anyone can finish that Sikh. This is what has happened in villages and cities of Punjab. We lost our faith and Love for Guru Granth Sahib ji, Our Gurus and our Shaheeds, and when we broke away from them and their ideals, we got weak. It was this weakness of ideals and morals, of faith and dedication which has turned us into slaves, slaves of Governments, slaves of pakhandi Babey and Gurus, slaves of evil. Which power was able to finish or overpower Sikhs of 18th century? No one. Only reason was, Sikhs of those times had their loyalty to Only Guru Granth Sahib ji and Panth. It was Guru and Panth which mattered to those Sikhs, not their personal lives or thinkings. Those Sikhs never went to pakhandi Gurus and Babas for having male-childs, for business and prosperity and for getting peace of mind. Instead, they were courageous enough to sacrifice their small sons, babies for Guru. They left their homes and lands and preferred living in Jungles just for Guru and Sikhi. They took peace from Baani and Naam of Guru, from their sacrifice, from their love and devotion to Guru, not from yogis and sadhus.

And in the end, those Sikhs won. If we Sikhs of today want to be in Charhdi Kala, wish to have our own Khalsa Raaj, wish to have a strong and prosperous Sikh society and Nation, we will have to leave evils of mind behind and devote ourself to our Beloved Satguruji. We will have to go out in villages and cities and awaken and enlighten our Sikh brothers and sisters to come back to feet of Guru Granth Sahib ji. We will have to give the message of Guru’s Love to Sikhs, and Sikhs will have to give up their greed and their ego, and come to feet of Guru Granth Sahib ji. Which is the object we cannot have from Guru Granth Sahib ji, peace, prosperity, children, wealth, everything is there in Guruji’s feet, its just our way of asking which we need to change. Guru is always merciful; it’s just Sikh who doesn’t know how to get his paap forgiven from Guru. The day each and every Sikh commits himself/herself to Guru Granth Sahib ji, to charhdi kala of Panth, to the mission of Shaheed Singhs, these small worldly things will not matter. These fakers were there in times of Guru Nanak dev ji, they were there during Guru Arjan Devji and times of Guru Gobind Singh ji, they were there during times of Baba Deep Singh ji and Baba Mani Singh ji, but they didn’t come forward to serve humanity, to defend the poor and helpless, to stand up for Truth and Dharam. Where were they? And today when there is Adharam and Paap all over, innocents and poor suffer, hunger and poverty rule, where are these so-called Gurus and Babas?  During these times also, it was one and only Sant-Sipahi Khalsa, Son of Guru Gobind Singh ji, Sant Jarnail Singh ji who stood up for Dharam.

I can go on and on writing on this topic, and I plan to write some follow-up articles on this issue, which is the BIGGEST issue concerning Khalsa panth today, as these pakhandis have divided and destroyed power of Panth with their evil deeds, but someday, with kirpa of Satguru Guru Granth Sahib ji, people will realize the truth. Only thing I worry for is, what if that day is too late, then the story of Snake and ants will be repeated. Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji told about fal these fakes will get one day

Those (fraudulent persons) who, in the world, display different (artificial) guises to win the people over;
Ultimately, they will be chopped down by the dagger of Death and will get their resting place in hell.(56)
